Pierce Charles camp immediately react as West Ham bid tabled for new transfer
West Ham are pushing to sign Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Pierce Charles.
Graham Potter’s search for new keepers has continued despite West Ham signing Mads Hermansen from Leicester City.
Charles has caught the eye after impressing for Sheffield Wednesday despite uncertainty surrounding the future of the Yorkshire giants.
West Ham’s need for a new backup keeper, alongside the precarious ownership situation at Hillsborough, made a move seem straightforward, though that isn’t the case.

Charles camp ‘confused’ by Wednesday reaction to West Ham bid
Potter has been left unsatisfied with Alphonse Areola in goal and is seemingly keen to get the Frenchman out of the squad altogether.
Having missed out on the signing of Botafogo’s John Victor earlier in the transfer window, the Hammers launched an approach for Charles.
However, in a bizarre twist, Sheffield Wednesday have rejected West Ham’s multi-million pound bid, leaving people around the Owls in shock.
According to the Independent, Charles’ camp have also been left in confusion following the news, with the money likely going towards paying wages and general cash flow if accepted.
Wednesday started the season with only 16 registered first-team players, with Charles one of the few benefiting from their lack of options.
- Wednesday supporters have grown frustrated over Dejphon Chansiri’s unwillingness to sell the club
- It was assumed that he would sell players before selling the club
It isn’t the first time that Chansiri has left opposing clubs in the dark this summer.
The Owls had accepted a bid from Rangers for Djeidi Gassama before the owner delayed signing off on the transfer, leaving everyone in the dark for days.
Sheffield Wednesday’s decision not to agree on the sale of Charles has now left the Irons in a difficult position, but it could yet change.

West Ham should continue to push for Charles
The Hammers can’t let Chansiri’s inability to run a club stand in their way of such a promising keeper in Charles.
The 20-year-old would be one for the future for Potter and would prove to be a much more valuable asset than Areola.
West Ham need to offload Areola this summer or face having him sitting on the sidelines and earning £120,000 a week.
With just over two weeks to go in the window, Charles is certainly one to watch.
