Paul Brown: West Ham United transfer for ‘on fire’ Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez rated
Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez would be a “really exciting signing” for West Ham, according to journalist Paul Brown.
The 22-year-old forward has scored 21 goals from his 23 appearances in all competitions this season, with five assists.
But Brown also explained that the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham are also monitoring the Mexico international.
“On paper, Santiago Gimenez is absolutely on fire and looks like a huge prospect,” Brown told GIVEMESPORT (20 January). “He’s only 22, but he’s already scored 19 goals in 17 games in Holland.
“I think much of Europe is looking at him and while he’d be a really exciting signing for West Ham, I think there are other clubs in the Premier League that he’s attracted to right now.
“I think Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and Chelsea are all looking at this guy. The big question is whether this is a flash in the pan or whether he’s got something that is going to last.”
Star striker
Gimenez is really enjoying himself this season, with the young striker having already banged in 19 league goals, having also scored twice in the Champions League.
That scoring rate was obviously going to attract some of the biggest clubs in world football, which will be concerning news for West Ham fans.
The East London club definitely need a new striker in the door, with Michail Antonio currently out injured and both Divin Mubama and Danny Ings looking likely to exit in the near future.
Winger Jarrod Bowen has filled the gap up top expertly, helping the Hammers thrive in the Premier League, but there is no telling how far the club could go with a recognised striker leading the line.
Gimenez would absolutely solve all their problems, but whether he wants to move to the London Stadium or not remains to be seen.

One positive in their pursuit is the promise of regular minutes, with the Mexico international perhaps not walking into the starting XI of other clubs.
In other West Ham news, clubs are queuing up to sign a Hammers international on loan after his recent appearance in the FA Cup.
