Pablo Fornals twist at London Stadium as Dharmesh Sheth gasps at West Ham United transfer news

There may have been a late twist in the deal for Pablo Fornals to leave West Ham as he is at the London Stadium ahead of their game against Bournemouth, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

The Sky Sports journalist reported the news via his X account on 1 February, suggesting a twist could be on the cards after it was previously reported a deal had been agreed ahead of a move to Real Betis.

Sheth also reported that, after an agreement for Fornals to join Betis for £7million, the midfielder had been granted permission to speak to the Spanish club to finalise a move.

What is happening?

If Fornals was supposedly set to join Betis, with a fee agreed and just the final details to be ironed out between the player and the club, what purpose would he have been at the London Stadium for tonight’s Premier League clash?

Of course, if there was no transfer news tonight, he would likely have been named in the squad to face Bournemouth, so perhaps he travelled as a matter of process expecting to be in the squad.

If that was the case, though, he surely would have pulled out at the last minute to negotiate terms with Betis. As reported, a fee has been agreed between the clubs, so he would have now been expected to travel to Spain ahead of the move.

With this new twist, a relatively simple-sounding transfer has become all the more confusing, and a late London Stadium exit for Fornals may not be as close to completion as first thought.
