Odilon Kossounou sends message to West Ham United star Maxwel Cornet after featuring in int’l qualifier
Odilon Kossounou has sent a message to West Ham ace Maxwel Cornet after the pair played for the Ivory Coast against Lesotho on Saturday (9 September).
The Bayer Leverkusen defender, who was linked with a move to the London Stadium over the summer, was joined in the Ivorians’ starting lineup by the 26-year-old as they earned a 1-0 victory in the African Nations Cup qualifier.
After the game, the Hammers winger took to Instagram to thank the fans for their support, with the 22-year-old Kossounou responding to his compatriot with two fire emojis.

Opportunity
It’s a shame West Ham weren’t able to take advantage of Cornet’s relationship with Kossounou to persuade him to make the move to the London Stadium over the summer.
The Hammers’ technical director Tim Steidten, who joined the club from Leverkusen over the summer, was keen to sign the defender from his old side, with fellow centre-back Jonathan Tah also believed to be a target.
But the Irons weren’t able to get a deal over the line and they will have to wait until January if they want to have another go at signing the Ivorian.

As for Cornet, the run out will have done him some good after he has only featured once for the club so far this season after being linked with a move to Everton towards the end of the transfer window.
While the winger appears to have dropped down the pecking order, he should get more of a chance to prove his worth once our European campaign starts in a couple of weeks.
