Nuno Espirito Santo has no excuse left over Keiber Lamadrid after West Ham announcement
Nuno Espirito Santo staying on as manager was key for West Ham, and their first official signing has been confirmed.
West Ham issued a statement on Saturday revealing they have exercised their right to activate the buy option in Keiber Lamadrid's loan deal.
The Venezuelan arrived in East London back in the winter window; however, he was given few minutes to showcase his talents.
While it may have made sense for Nuno to snub Lamdrid amid West Ham's relegation crisis, entering next season, there will be little to no excuses.
The winger made just one appearance for the first team, while featuring three times for the Under-21s.
Now, after signing permanently, the 22-year-old will want to grab this chance with both hands.
Why Keiber Lamadrid must get West Ham chance
The West Ham scouting department has clearly spotted something in Lamadrid or else he would not have been signed.
While he had limited chances last season, with his only appearance arriving in the FA Cup, it made perfect sense as to why.
At the time, West Ham were battling relegation and putting an inexperienced and unknown entity into the mix would not have been ideal.
The Irons needed experience and they needed proven Premier League quality in order to give themselves the best chance of survival.
It was perhaps not the best environment for the South American to find himself in.
However, now with a clean slate, and a drop down in level, after the Hammers confirmed Lamadrid's permanent arrival, Nuno has no excuses left.
The 22-year-old must be given his chance to showcase that he can be a difference maker now.
How much have West Ham paid for Lamadrid?
West Ham's loan move for Lamadrid did contain a buy option as previously mentioned.
While a fee has not been mentioned in the official announcement, it was previously reported the figure was £1million.
Even if Lamadrid turns out to be far below the level the Hammers need, you would suspect they could recoup most of that tag.
All in all, it is a transfer that comes with very little risk but has huge upside. But only if the winger gets his chance.
With the future of Crysencio Summerville uncertain, but likely to be leaving, perhaps space will open up on the wing during pre-season and allow Lamadrid to impress.
