Nikola Milenkovic set to seal Fiorentina exit by Wednesday as West Ham close in on signing

Nikola Milenkovic is “virtually” a West Ham player and is on the brink of his Fiorentina departure, according to TuttoMercatoWeb.

The Italian news outlet claim that the 23-year-old defender “will say goodbye to Fiorentina once and for all” either tonight [09/08/21] or tomorrow [Tuesday].

Discussions between the various parties over the Serb are said to be “proceeding swiftly” with Milenkovic ready to join West Ham.

Sky Sports [09/08/21] also recently reported positive discussions over the central defender with West Ham said to be “confident” of signing Milenkovic with a deal “edging closer”.

This latest report from Italy suggests a deal is set to be concluded either tonight or at some point tomorrow.

That will be music to the ears of West Ham fans with Milenkovic likely to be registered in time to face Newcastle United on Sunday in the club’s first Premier League game of the season.

If he is confirmed prior to squad registration on Friday, it will be interesting to see whether David Moyes throws him straight into the deep end against the likes of Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin at St James Park.

Angelo Ogbonna has been injured recently, and although he is making positive strides, it could be a big risk to start him so soon after his recovery.

That leaves just Craig Dawson and Issa Diop in the middle, and the pair enjoyed a torrid time on their last visit to Tyneside when the former was sent off in the first half.

Milenkovic won’t have much time to get introduced to his teammates before Sunday’s trip, so if West Ham do get him over the line before Sunday, Moyes will have a big decision on his hands.

In other West Ham news, the Irons want to sign this ‘Brilliant’ young attacker who shone on Sky Sports on the weekend.
