Niclas Fullkrug twist emerges as West Ham United eye new transfer
Niclas Fullkrug will jet in this weekend to finalise his transfer to West Ham if everything goes well, according to Patrick Berger.
The Sky Sports Germany journalist claimed on 2 August that an agreement had been reached between the Hammers and Dortmund.
The deal is down to the additional payments for the £25.5million deal and the Germany international is expected to move to the London Stadium soon.
Berger wrote on X: “BREAKING: AGREEMENT between Borussia Dortmund and West Ham United on a permanent transfer of Niclas Füllkrug. The deal will go through according to exclusive Sky information.
“The Hammers will accept Borussia Dortmund’s counter offer. € 26m+4 bonuses. It’s just a matter of details regarding the additional payments.
“BVB is already looking for alternatives to Füllkrug and has had initial loose discussions.
“Füllkrug wants to move and will sign a contract with #WHUFC until 2027+1, 2.5-3m net salary. If everything goes well, the DFB star will fly over this week.”
West Ham take huge risk in Niclas Fullkruh transfer chase
While Fullkrug is a proven goalscorer and a valuable asset in the Bundesliga, there are doubts over whether he’ll be the answer for the Hammers.
The German is already 31 years old, which means he is likely to be in the twilight of his career.
This could limit his effectiveness and longevity at West Ham, especially considering the physical demands of the Premier League.
His style of play might not be the best fit for the Hammers as he is a traditional number nine who relies on his physicality and positioning to score goals.
While this can be effective, it might not align with the tactical approach of Julen Lopetegui.
Lastly, the price tag of €30million (£25.5million in total, as mentioned above), for a player approaching the end of his career could be seen as a significant risk.
However, it seems that the club have made up their mind and hopefully, things pan out should he join.
In other West Ham news, Arsenal and Newcastle have made late moves to hijack Spurs’ deal to secure the services of a Hammers player this summer.
