Niclas Fullkrug to sign long-term West Ham United contract after medical as salary details emerge
West Ham have agreed a long-term contract with Niclas Fullkrug that will pay him up to £50,000-per-week after tax, Florian Plettenberg reports.
According to the Sky Sports Germany journalist via X on 2 August the German international is set to join on a three-year deal with the option of a further 12 months after the Irons finally made a crucial breakthrough with Borussia Dortmund.
His salary is reportedly due to be worth up to €3million net [£2.56m] which works out at just under £50,000-per-week.
A fee worth a total of €30million [£25.6m] will change hands after the Bundesliga giants came back with a counter-proposal earlier on Friday following late-night discussions the previous evening [Patrick Berger, 2 August].
Tim Steidten has had a connection with Fullkrug since attempting to bring him to the London Stadium a year ago [Berger, 31 July] and his driven this move towards completion, with a medical now set to follow.
West Ham replace Gianluca Scamacca at the London Stadium
David Moyes stumbled through his final season as Irons boss last term without an obvious number striker as Michail Antonio’s form and fitness faltered, while Danny Ings’ Hammers career is still yet to properly get off the ground.
Gianluca Scamacca’s return to Serie A last summer saw Steidten attempt multiple deals to bring in a new striker right up to the deadline without success.
Fullkrug may not be the superstar name that some would have hoped for but for a transfer fee and contract that is below the very top level there will be hopes he can avoid the difficulties of his Italian predecessor and Sebastien Haller before that.
And it looks like his style could be better suited to the Premier League after former Schalke and Hanover sporting director Gerhard Zuber told Sky Sports (1 August) the German has “amazing physicality”.
He is set to follow Crysencio Summerville from Leeds United as potentially the fifth summer signing at the London Stadium, with free agent midfielder Guido Rodriguez also on the way for a medical on Saturday [Fabrizio Romano, 2 August] and likely to beat him in.
In other West Ham news, the Irons have started work to sign another attacker amid competition from English clubs.
