Niclas Fullkrug set to sign West Ham United contract on Monday

Borussia Dortmund striker Niclas Fullkrug is set to sign his contract at West Ham United on Monday 5 August, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist reported this on X (4 August) and added that his medical has also been completed.

Fullkrug’s deal with the Hammers is set to last until June 2027 and even has an option to be extended until 2028.

Niclas Fullkrug is exactly what West Ham United need

West Ham have had quite the rollercoaster over the last couple of seasons. The club have become European Champions and then finished ninth in the Premier League all in the space of a few campaigns.

Their strike force has also been quite a burden on the club’s shoulders. That’s not to say that the club haven’t tried to recruit attacking reinforcement but their luck with strikers has been terrible.

Gianluca Scamacca is arguably the biggest name striker brought in over the last few seasons. Unfortunately, His Serie A form could not be replicated in England’s top flight, resulting in a London Stadium exit.

Michail Antonio’s form has also seemed to have dropped drastically. Last term he failed to hit double figures in terms of goals which even caused rumours of an exit [GZH, 28 June].

These have since been squashed [WHUFC.com, 31 July] but the fact it was rumoured outlines how poorly he played.

Whilst Fullkrug is on the older side of the scale in terms of recruitment, judging from his prior campaigns, he looks to be fairly clinical which is exactly what Julen Lopetegui needs to alleviate pressure from his wingers.
