Niclas Fullkrug exit: Juventus transfer twist emerges after West Ham development

Juventus are unlikely to sign Niclas Fullkrug after the West Ham striker sustained a new injury, according to TuttoSport.

The Italian source reports [11 January] that Serie A side have been targeting the German in recent weeks, attempting to strike a deal for a back-up for Dusan Vlahovic.

However, after Fullkrug sustained a new tendon injury against Aston Villa on Friday 10 January, likely seeing him sidelined for another month, it has become difficult for Juventus to materialise a transfer.

Niclas Fullkrug’s West Ham exit already off after new injury

Fullkrug was very open and honest about his start to life in East London, having been sidelined for the first few months after sustaining an Achilles injury in September.

Arriving at the London Stadium on a £27million deal during the summer [BBC Sport], the German has been the cause of frustration amongst the fanbase, with digs also being made at Tim Steidten.

The technical director decided on the 31-year-old striker over a deal for Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran, a forward who is breaking records at Villa Park this season, with seven league goals so far.

With Michail Antonio recovering from a horrifying car crash and Danny Ings totally devoid of confidence, Fullkrug’s new setback could not have come at a worse time for the Hammers.

However, it could mean that he stays at the London Stadium this month, and if he can get back to full fitness, he could have a major role to play under Graham Potter.

He is a proven goalscorer, even earning his chances with the German national team, but if he cannot remain fit for long periods of time, the Irons need to start thinking about a backup option.

Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford looks to be the only concrete striker rumour at the London Stadium right now, though his move to East London is highly unlikely due to his eye-watering wage.

In other West Ham news, Graeme Souness has fired shots at another senior figure who should be sacked after Julen Lopetegui.
