Nice unhappy with Jean-Clair Todibo response to West Ham United bid, ‘tension’ in France

OGC Nice are unhappy that Jean-Clair Todibo has opted against joining West Ham United, according to Corriere dello Sport.

The report in today’s paper (page 5, 19 July) suggests that West Ham’s offer for Todibo has been frozen, as the defender isn’t interested in joining the club. Instead, he wants to sign for Juventus and is believed to have agreed personal terms.

He’s waiting for Nice and Juventus to agree to a transfer fee, with West Ham reportedly being willing to pay around £31 million – which Nice would’ve been pretty satisfied with, leading to “tension” between them and the defender.

West Ham’s focus shifts away from Todibo

A player of Jean-Clair Todibo’s stature would’ve brought some real attention to Julen Lopetegui’s project at West Ham United. After all, he appears to be set on making a real difference to this squad.

There’s a clear aim to revitalise things in the wake of David Moyes’ exit. As we know, the club finished the 2023/24 campaign in ninth position.

The saga continues

While it’ll be fairly disappointing for fans who were hoping to see such a big name head to the capital, it may benefit them in the long run. Sure, the Hammers don’t have European football for the first time in four years. However, the profile of the Premier League should be enough to convince most players to make the jump.

Alas, that hasn’t been the case for the 24-year-old. Thankfully for West Ham supporters, Max Kilman has already made his presence known after arriving from Wolves – and something tells us the new gaffer is far from done.

In other West Ham news, an update has emerged on signing a second winger after personal terms were agreed.
