Newcastle expect Jarrod Bowen deal as major West Ham United transfer exit planned
Newcastle are planning a “major” move to sign Jarrod Bowen from West Ham this summer, according to the Northern Echo.
A report on the outlet’s website on 9 July indicates that the Magpies believe a deal can be done for the England international despite indications from the Hammers that they don’t want to sell.
Bowen is the top target at St. James’ Park for the right-wing position and they are expected to spend the majority of their budget addressing that spot, with a “significant sum” expected to be possible now that profit and sustainability concerns have been dealt with.
The Hammers star has a contract until 2030 at the London Stadium and is not believed to have a release clause but Newcastle reportedly view a £100million-plus fee as “fanciful” and believe they can convince the 27-year-old he has a better chance of regular European football in the North East at a time when he has yet to develop a relationship with new boss Julen Lopetegui.
Julen Lopetegui has no plans to let Jarrod Bowen leave West Ham
If the Saudi-backed club can spend heavily after addressing their financial concerns then it does represent a potential threat to the Irons.
But based on Bowen’s contract situation and importance to the club it would surely take an offer approaching nine-figures to make a sale worth considering.
While the change from David Moyes to Julen Lopetegui brings the potential for any player at the London Stadium’s status to change the Spaniard wants his star winger to stay and any offers are expected to be rejected [West Ham Football, 9 July].
And the Irons star himself is reportedly not interested in leaving, according to HITC on 9 July, putting the Hammers in a strong position to resist the “major” approach from Eddie Howe’s side.

Newcastle may have returned to the Champions League last term but failed to repeat that achievement for next season, while Bowen has had a number of seasons in Europe under Moyes, including lifting a trophy, while Tim Steiden and Lopetegui are currently adding to the squad in an attempt to push on from there.
So while the interest from St. James’ is unsurprising their apparent confidence in prizing him away is more unexpected.
