Nehuen Perez ready to join West Ham United as transfer approach made for Argentina ace

Nehuen Perez is open to joining West Ham and the club are interested in making a move for him, according to Ian Abrahams.

The talkSPORT journalist reported via Twitter on 10 June that the Argentine international is prepared to join the Hammers from Udinese.

Sky Sports Italia’s Gianluca Di Marzio had reported earlier in the day that a number of teams are considering the 23-year-old but the Irons have already made an initial approach.

Abrahams wrote: “My sources in Italy say West Ham interested in Udinese’s Nehuen Perez, and the player is open to the move”.

West Ham to move for Fabricio Bruno replacement?

It’s no secret that the club needs to sort the defence when only the three teams relegated from the Premier League conceding more goals last season.

Angelo Ogbonna’s long service at the club has come to an end after his contract expired and there is uncertainty over the future of both Nayef Aguerd and last term’s captain Kurt Zouma.

West Ham moved quickly this summer to make the first step in addressing the situation as they looked set to seal a move for Brazilian Fabricio Bruno, but the deal collapsed after the arrival of interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Perez could therefore be the next man on the shortlist of targets for Tim Steidten to pursue for Julen Lopetegui.

The German looks to finally be on the brink of securing his first attacking recruit, and the first signing of the new era, after Luis Guilherme arrived in London for his medical [Fabrizio Romano, 10 June].

And given both the difficulty with which that deal has been pushed towards the finish line, as well as the failure to close the Bruno move, indications that the club’s interest is returned by the player looks to be a positive development.

The two-cap international played every minute of every Serie A game for Udinese last term outside of two matches missed through suspension, with five of only six league games he hasn’t played for them over the past two campaigns coming as a result of bans.

In other West Ham news, the Irons have learned what they have to pay to secure a big-money La Liga deal.
