Nayef Aguerd wants move abroad in last-gasp West Ham United transfer
West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd wants a move to La Liga with two clubs interested, according to Santi Aouna.
The Foot Mercato journalist reported this via X (30 August) and stated that talks are ongoing between the Hammers, Real Sociedad and Villareal.
This surfaced after it was reported that the Hammers were in “advanced talks” with Sociedad [Dharmesh Sheth, 30 August].
Nayef Aguerd won’t have much game time at West Ham United this season
If it wasn’t already obvious since the start of the summer transfer window, it now feels all but confirmed that Aguerd no longer has a future at the London Stadium.
The defender was part of a defence last season that ended up having the fourth-worst defensive record in the entirety of the league.
And, since the arrivals of both Max Kilman [Sky Sports, 24 August] and Jean Clair-Todibo have occurred, it feels as if there’s no way the Morocco international would get a chance to play for the club.
Whilst depth is always needed, Aguerd hasn’t been the best of additions to the West Ham squad.
In fact, there have arguably been more moments where the defender has been at fault whilst playing for the Hammers rather than influencing the team due to a solid game.
Nothing is yet set in stone and deals could still fall apart but with both Villareal and Sociedad interested in acquiring the defender’s services, now feels like the optimal time for Aguerd to exit the London Stadium, especially if he wants to grant his wish of moving to a “big club” [Sean Whetstone, 29 August].
