Nayef Aguerd stance on Atletico Madrid transfer emerges after move for West Ham United defender made

West Ham United ace Nayef Aguerd would be interested in a move to Atletico Madrid this summer, according to Caught Offside.

The outlet reported on 22 July that as Aguerd’s Hammers future lies in the balance, a switch to Diego Simeone’s side would be a move the Morocco international would like to make.

This comes after it was reported by Foot Mercato on Sunday (21 July) that the Spanish giants had made an enquiry about the defender and look to be one of the teams in the chase for the 28-year-old.

The French publication said talks had begun between the two teams with West Ham wanting to sell Aguerd outright or attach an obligation to sign him at the end of a loan move and want €20million in the deal [£16.86m].

West Ham United should let Nayef Aguerd go

It’s evident that Aguerd doesn’t have a future with West Ham. Last season both he and club captain Kurt Zouma had below-par seasons and seemingly ruined their chances of a future at the club.

Max Kilman has already been brought in as reinforcement in order to help shore up Julen Lopetegui’s defence this summer.

Despite Kilman’s addition, the Hammers are likely to dip into the transfer market once again and perhaps even add another centre-back to their ranks.

The Irons have had a bid accepted [Santi Aouna, 17 July] from Nice for Jean Clair-Todibo but this move seems to have since been scuppered by the defender’s desire to sign for Juventus.

Last season David Moyes’ side had the fourth-worst defence in the league so it doesn’t come as much of a surprise to see the London-based club linked with defensive reinforcement.

Although nothing is set in stone yet, the potential money to be gained from an Aguerd or Zouma exit would no doubt help increase their chances of recruiting some top-level defensive talent this summer.
