Nayef Aguerd offer on table as multi-million sale on cards at West Ham

Al Ittihad have offered an initial £4.2million loan fee to sign West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd, according to Santi Aouna.

The Foot Mercato journalist reported via X that alongside the initial loan fee, the Saudi side has offered an obligation to buy worth around £16.8million.

This comes after the Hammers have already agreed to the exit of club captain Kurt Zouma [Nawaf Oga, 29 August] as part of their defensive overhaul.

West Ham United will be happy to see the back of Nayef Aguerd

Although there has been the odd occasion that Aguerd has performed to a high standard whilst playing for the Hammers, it feels as if these performances are hard to come by.

The defender was brought in during the 2022/23 season to try to help shore up the Hammers’ defence.

But, in actual fact, he seemed to make it worse, especially last season. David Moyes’ men had the fourth worst defensive record in the Premier League with only the three relegated teams conceding more goals.

When this is taken into account, it comes as no surprise that Julen Lopetegui has been looking for ways to rid the club of both Zouma and Aguerd since the window opened.

And, now that players such as Max Kilman and Jean Clair-Todibo have joined the club [HITC, 10 August] to bolster their defensive ranks, the pair would likely fall far down the pecking order at the London Stadium, so an exit seems to make the most sense.
