Nayef Aguerd about to quit West Ham United as Villarreal news emerges

West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd is about to leave the London Stadium, according to Foot Mercato.

The French news outlet reported online on Wednesday (28 August) that the centre-back has been looking for a way out of the London Stadium “for several weeks.”

Porto and Villarreal have both made Aguerd a number one priority and are keen to quickly sign the Moroccan.

Al-Ittihad and a big European club are also keeping an eye on the 28-year-old.

West Ham United defender Nayef Aguerd to quit the London Stadium?

It is unlikely that anyone connected with the Hammers would stand in Aguerd’s way of exiting the club before the transfer window shuts on Friday (30 August), least of all Julen Lopetegui.

Since arriving at the London Stadium the Argentinian has had a clear mission to overhaul the Hammers’ defence.

Max Kilman and Jean-Clair Todibo have both been signed and are likely to form a partnership alongside each other at centre-back. Meanwhile, Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been signed to play at right-back.

Kurt Zouma is close to sealing his exit, with the club ready to make the Frenchman a one-off payment of £2.2million to help facilitate his transfer to Al-Orobah (via Sean Whetstone, 28 August).

Therefore, it would make sense for Aguerd to follow Zouma out of the exit door.

Game time is likely to be limited for the defender at West Ham this season.

And at the age of 28, Aguerd will be keen to move elsewhere for regular first-team football while he is still in the prime of his career, with Villarreal able to offer European football.
