Mohammed Kudus backed to seal West Ham United exit after disappointment

West Ham star Mohammed Kudus’ reputation to interested clubs won’t be affected by Ghana’s failings on the international stage, according to Laryea Kingston.

Speaking to AfricaFoot (19 November), Kudus’ former academy coach Kingston said that Irons forward has all the qualities to succeed, with Liverpool and Arsenal said to be interested [Sky Sports].

Kudus drew the ire of Ghana’s media after his missed penalty in their 2-1 loss to Niger rounded off an unsuccessful Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign for the Black Stars.

Kingston said: “I’ve known him since he was 14, 15 years old. With the kind of character he has, nobody can break him.

“Apart from his qualities, his potential, he has this positive mindset – I know he’s going through a very difficult time with the national team, but Europeans see things differently.

“You can see that a lot of big clubs wanted him – I don’t think his performances in the national team (will affect his chances of completing a transfer).”

Mohammed Kudus transfer seems inevitable at West Ham United

While former Ghana international Kingston reckons that Kudus has the mentality to succeed at the highest level, the 24-year-old’s start to the new season couldn’t have gone much worse.

Not only have Ghana failed miserably in their bid to reach the next Africa Cup of Nations, he’s scored just two goals in eight games this season and is currently serving a five-match ban.

Kudus’ brain explosion and lashing out in the Irons’ 4-1 defeat to Tottenham last month saw the winger’s frustrations come to a head.

Ghana’s failure to reach the 2025 AFCON could play into the Hammers’ hands if they choose to cash in on Kudus, with the player now set to be available for the entirety of the 2025/26 season.

However, Kudus will have to show he’s worthy of a hefty price tag when he makes his return to first-team action in East London, and if he can’t, talk of a big-money transfer will be put on the back burner.

In other West Ham news, a left-field transfer option has been identified to help solve a problem position in Julen Lopetegui’s team.
