MLS and Saudi clubs want to sign West Ham United striker Michail Antonio

West Ham United striker Michail Antonio is a target for MLS and Saudi Arabia clubs this summer, according to The Athletic.

Writing on their website (15 May), the news outlet reported that the Jamaica international was a target for Galatasaray and Al Ettifaq last summer before opting to stay at the London Stadium and pen a new two-year contract.

But MLS clubs and Saudi interest has returned ahead of this summer, although it is unclear on his stance while Julen Lopetegui previously showed an interest in signing the 34-year-old for Wolves.

West Ham cannot sell everyone this summer

There is going to be a lot of transfer business happening in east London this summer, but while there will be a lot of exits not everyone can be sold.

Tim Steidten is going to have a lot of negotiations going on this summer, and for everyone who leaves they will need to be replaced and that means cash being spent too.

It’s impossible for everyone to leave and that means Lopetegui has to be particular about who he lets depart, and while Antonio is getting older he is still capable of doing a job.

He has proven that in the second half of the season and if he is happy to rotate in and out of the team with a new first-choice striker, then it’s definitely worthwhile keeping him.

It may be that he takes the opportunity to move abroad and earn well elsewhere, in which case the decision could be out of his hands, but the club need to ensure they’re not left short for the new season.

In other West Ham news, six defenders could leave the club in major squad rebuild.
