West Ham United have been offered Hoffenheim centre-forward Mergim Berisha in the winter transfer window, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Sports journalist reported on his X account (16 January) that the Hammers were given the opportunity to sign the German international but turned it down.

Berisha is not a target for the Irons, with Nottingham Forest's Taiwo Awoniyi still one of the main options for the final third at the London Stadium.

At the moment, Graham Potter does not have a recognised quality number nine, and the East London club must prioritise reinforcing that area.

Niclas Fullkrug has had his fitness issues since moving to the Premier League last summer, with the former Borussia Dortmund striker out again for a considerable period.

Michail Antonio is also on the sidelines after being involved in a car accident, leading to a dearth of options in the attack.

Danny Ings' career at the London Stadium looks to be in its final chapter, considering Lucas Paqueta started ahead of him in the 3-2 win over Fulham on Tuesday (14 January).

West Ham evidently need a prolific goalscorer in their ranks, which Berisha isn't, as has been demonstrated during his time in the Bundesliga.

In the current campaign, the Germany international has made 17 appearances in all competitions for Hoffenheim, scoring just one goal.

The 26-year-old has found game time hard to come by this season, and the Hammers need someone who has a reliable reputation.

Awoniyi looks like a decent option as a short-term solution, but it remains to be seen whether a deal will materialise.
