McAvennie names West Ham player he’d love at Celtic in ‘terrifying’ Maeda verdict

West Ham United could be set to clear out parts of their squad in the summer transfer window, and some older players could exit.

Graham Potter wants to reduce the average age of his squad as he attempts to rebuild the team after a disappointing season.

Vladimir Coufal and Lukasz Fabianski are two of the veterans who have now departed as a result, and more could now follow.

Celtic legend and former Hammer Frank McAvennie has now shared that he wants to see his former side sign one of West Ham’s veterans this summer, and a deal could materialise.

McAvennie wants Celtic to sign Danny Ings

West Ham need to revamp their forward line, and this could result in several departures, as Evan Ferguson has already exited following his loan spell.

Michail Antonio is out of contract at the end of the month as he continues to recover from injury, and Danny Ings could also depart as no fresh terms have been offered to him.

Speaking on the Let Me Be Frank Podcast, McAvennie claimed that he would love to see Celtic sign Ings this summer, while he also heaped praise on Daizen Maeda.

Ings’ record for West Ham

“I think [Ings] would be a great signing for Celtic. We never replaced Kyogo. They haven’t replaced him,” he stated.

“I think [there is a future for Idah at Celtic]. See if you sign someone like Danny Ings, Danny won’t play every game, which will mean Adam will come in.

“And I don’t want to play Maeda through the middle. I think he is better on the wing, although he scores a lot of goals. I think he is better out there. He terrifies people.

“Danny Ings would come in and play, even if he played an hour. Get Adam on, that’s the way it’s going to be.”

West Ham should part ways with Ings

Ings is clearly not at the level required for West Ham anymore, having scored just once in 15 Premier League games this season.

The 32-year-old arrived after a difficult spell at Aston Villa followed a sensational season with Southampton, in which he narrowly missed out on the Premier League Golden Boot.

The Englishman has not managed to hit his best form at all at the London Stadium, recording just five goals in 69 appearances, and with West Ham needing to freshen up their squad, he should be one of the next to go.

West Ham signed Daniel Cummings from Celtic, and Ings could now go the other way to give Brendan Rodgers another attacking option, and will almost certainly leave the London Stadium on a free transfer.
