Maxwel Cornet wanted abroad as another West Ham United exit nears

West Ham United outcast Maxwel Cornet is attracting interest from Turkey ahead of the transfer window closing, according to The Sun.

The newspaper reported via its print edition on Wednesday [21 August, page 47] that a loan exit is more likely that a permanent departure.

Cornet has made 37 appearances for West Ham in two seasons since joining from Burnley – not helped by injury setbacks – and is out of the picture under Julen Lopetegui.

Maxwel Cornet has to leave West Ham

Whether it is a temporary measure of a permanent decision, the Hammers have to get Cornet off their books before the transfer window closes.

The Frenchman has struggled to get going at the London Stadium and it is more and more clear that his future lies away from East London.

Cornet was unable to hold down a spot under David Moyes and is less likely to do so now under Lopetegui, who has plenty of wide options.

The fact the 27-year-old has started just three Premier League games in two seasons at United says it all.

In an ideal world, the Irons would recoup a nice sum for Cornet and get rid permanently, but this report suggests a loan move is more likely.

If nothing else, that will get the player’s wages off the books and ensure Cornet puts himself in the shop window by playing regularly elsewhere.

In other West Ham news, a club chief has confirmed he has tried – and failed – to sign an Irons players this summer.
