Max Kilman update emerges after West Ham United bid for Jean-Clair Todibo
West Ham United have not given up hope of signing Max Kilman despite making a bid for Jean-Clair Todibo, according to Jacob Steinberg.
Writing on the Guardian website (2 July), the journalist reports that the Hammers are plotting a new bid for the Wolves captain as Julen Lopetegui looks to strengthen his back line.
They have already had a bid rejected for the 27-year-old but are set to return with a new bid in the coming days [GiveMeSport, 1 July], despite an offer for Todibo also being made and rejected, as Tim Steidten ensures he is looking at all potential options for the position.
West Ham United refuse to put all their transfer eggs in one basket
Defensively the West Ham squad needs to be strengthened because there are glaring holes after some exits this summer.
Ben Johnson accepted a £60k p/w deal at Ipswich to leave at the end of his contract [Times, 27 June], while Angelo Ogbonna also departed when his deal expired and there are question marks about the future of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd [Hakim Zhouri, 11 May].
Aaron Cresswell signed a new deal but is way past his peak, and that leaves the club incredibly short in central defence especially.
Kilman is the priority but it shouldn’t be ruled out that West Ham could look to bring in more than one new centre-back this summer, with Dinos Mavropanos the only senior option currently available.
The fees involved will likely play a part in that decision but with plenty of competition for both deals, the club must now move quickly to seal their targets and strengthen the squad.
