Marcus Rashford finances mooted ahead of potential West Ham transfer

West Ham United won’t be able to afford the transfer of Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford, according to Stefan Borson.

The finance expert took to his X account [18 December] to list the chances the Top 20 Deloitte teams had of acquiring the England international, suggesting that the Hammers could not afford him.

With a potential transfer fee of £40million and a suggested £15m–20m per annum contract, the Irons “can’t pay” for the 27-year-old.

The East London club are looking to bolster their attacking ranks and have made Brighton’s Evan Ferguson a top target ahead of January [TEAMtalk, 16 December].

West Ham United should avoid Marcus Rashford transfer

Rashford broke into the Manchester United first team at a young age, and many expected the forward to become one of the best players in the world.

The Englishman has shown glimpses of his talent at Old Trafford; however, inconsistency has been a big issue for him.

Ruben Amorim left the 27-year-old out of his squad for the Manchester derby on Sunday [15 December], and it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

West Ham have Jarrod Bowen in their ranks, who has been better and more impactful than Rashford over the last few years, with more goal involvements since 2021.

The Hammers also signed Crysencio Summerville in the summer, and the former Leeds United forward has been impressive at the London Stadium.

Rashford is undoubtedly a Premier League superstar by name, but the Irons clearly don’t have the financial might to take a gamble on the 27-year-old, who is nowhere near good enough right now.

In other West Ham news, a Rangers forward has popped up on the Irons’ radar ahead of January.
