Manuel Lanzini in ‘advanced talks’ with Real Betis after West Ham United exit, deal could be completed next week
Manuel Lanzini is in advanced talks to sign for Real Betis following the expiration of his West Ham contract, according to InformaBetis.
The outlet reported (28 July) that if no setbacks occur, the deal could be completed as soon as next week with Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini giving the go-ahead to the move.
The move will see Lanzini reunite with former Hammers boss Pelligrini, but any deal may depend on outgoings at Betis.
Good move
A step from West Ham to the La Liga side would be a nice move for Lanzini. He left East London on a high note after winning the Europa Conference League but did not have his contract renewed and departed after eight seasons at the London Stadium.

The 30-year-old could prove a valuable asset to the La Liga side and could earn himself good game time considering Pellegrini has sanctioned the move.
In his final season with West Ham, the Argentine was not a squad regular having made just 10 Premier League appearances but was a regular in the Hammers’ European triumph makes 10 appearances.
However, despite his lack of game time last season, Lanzini did prove himself to be an influential attacker for the Irons and a scorer of great goals, including two West Ham goals of the season.
He could certainly have an impact under Pelligrini and a move to the more technical Spanish top flight may suit the ageing attacking midfielder compared to the physicality of the Premier League.
He is adept and facilitating counter-attacks, as seen through his 7.99 progressive passes per 90 (93rd percentile) and 2.38 progressive carries per 90 (88th percentile) [FBRef].

Real Betis were not a high-scoring side last season, having the lowest in the La Liga Top 6 with 46 goals, so his inclusion in the side could help the club push for the Champions League spots due to his creativity.
Furthermore, his recent European experience with West Ham could prove useful to Betis who qualified for the Europa League and will want to improve on their Round of 16 exit from the competition last season.
However, Lanzini is no natural goalscorer. His highest league tally for West Ham was eight in his debut season, so Pelligrini will not be buying for any goalscoring prowess.
For a free signing, Lanzini is a shrewd coup by Betis and West Ham fans will be happy to see him continue at the top level of European football.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers have made their final decision about the future of Aaron Cresswell.
