Manchester United transfer news as Harry Maguire stance emerges for West Ham

West Ham United are set to see their latest offer for Harry Maguire rejected by Manchester United, according to talkSPORT.

The broadcaster reported on their website on Monday (28 August) that the Red Devils have no interest in allowing Maguire to depart Old Trafford this summer after Raphael Varane picked up an injury in their win over Nottingham Forest.

Despite Erik ten Hag suggesting Victor Lindelof sits ahead of Maguire in the pecking order, the Dutchman wants to keep Maguire in his squad to not leave himself short of options if they were to pick up any more injuries.

West Ham

The Hammers had been expected to test United’s resolve before the window shuts on 1 September, but Ten Hag’s public desire to not allow the England international to leave Old Trafford partnered with United’s inability to sign a replacement defender seems to have killed any hope of a late move.

Time to move on

David Moyes and the Irons have been pursuing Maguire for most of this summer to no avail, with fees agreed contracts rejected and proposals shut down. This feels like the best time for all parties to move away from this deal, at least until January.

A move to West Ham seemed like the perfect opportunity for Maguire to get his career back on track but for whatever reason it hasn’t been able to materialise and he looks set for another season as a rotation option at Manchester United.

West Ham

West Ham have been clever in their business and have wasted no time finding new targets with Konstantinos Mavropanos already added to the squad at the London Stadium as Moyes aims to reinforce his backline and that likely shows their thoughts on the state of the Maguire deal.

Whether or not this is the end of the transfer saga that has occupied so much of both club’s summer remains to be seen, but the Hammers won’t be wasting any time waiting for either ten Hag or his former captain to change their mind.
