Manchester United to make formal offer for defender as West Ham United set to miss out
Manchester United look set to beat Everton and West Ham United to sign 16-year-old target James Overy, according to Alan Nixon.
The youngster featured in a pre-season friendly against the Hammers last season as they now look to tempt him into a move.
Now the Red Devils have stepped up their chase to sign Overy from Newton Abbot Spurs after he left Perth Glory.
This has seen them offer “VIP treatment” and put up in Hotel Football beside Old Trafford during talks.
West Ham set to miss out on James Overy
With Julen Lopetegui at the helm and Tim Steidten taking charge of the majority of transfer business, there is a change in tact this summer.
This has seen the Hammers linked to Brazilian talents like Fabricio Bruno and Wesley Gassova in recent weeks [Mundo Rubro Negro].
There have also been rumours suggesting more household names like Ademola Lookman [The Mirror] and Serhou Guirassy [HITC] are being considered.
The Hammers are looking prepared moving into the summer transfer window but it does look as if they will miss out on Overy.
The 16-year-old is clearly very highly rated given the level of the clubs that are showing interest in signing him.

West Ham and Everton can offer him a clearer route through to the first team which may represent an attractive prospect.
This may be blown out of the water by Man United rolling out the red carpet and treating Overy like a star before he’s even signed.
Playing at Old Trafford for a club like that could be the nail in the coffin for the Hammers in their pursuit.
In other West Ham news, Frank McAvennie is stunned by this from Mohammed Kudus.
