West Ham United midfielder Edson Alvarez is "currently not a hot topic" at Manchester United, according to journalist Christopher Michel.

The Sport1 reporter posted via his personal X account on Thursday (20 June) that United have seen Casemiro's move to Saudi Arabia fall through.

Casemiro's likely exit was previously reported to have triggered the Red Devils' interest in Alvarez [Fabrizio Romano], but there is nothing concrete.

"Casemiro's transfer to Saudi Arabia fell through a few days ago," Michel posted. Negotiations were at an advanced stage, but it didn't work out.

"Edson Alvarez from West Ham is currently not a hot topic."

Manchester United could turn to Edson Alvarez

While Man United's interest does not seem to be concrete at this stage, that could change if Casemiro manages to find another club.

A move to Saudi Arabia appears to be off for now, but there are no doubt plenty of clubs in that part of the world that will be eager to sign him.

Alvarez is naturally someone the Red Devils would then look at, but West Ham have no intention of selling - especially to a rival club.

After all, Man United are now one of West Ham's rivals for a European spot, so there will be an added premium on any transfer.

Right now, though, the Irons will not want to sell Alvarez regardless of how much is offered. He was identified by the club last year and a large sum was paid to sign him from Ajax.

After a season of Premier League football under his belt, the midfielder should hopefully be even better in 2024-25 as West Ham target a top-six finish.
