Manchester City ready to seal Xavier Parker transfer in West Ham United update

Manchester City are the frontrunners to sign West Ham youngster Xavier Parker this summer, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist has reported on X (18 July) that several “top” English clubs keen on Parker, but Manchester City are confident about getting a deal done.

After stepping up to the under-18’s side before receiving his official scholarship, Parker moving to City would see the Hammers receive a compensation fee.

West Ham should look to prevent Xavier Parker transfer

Despite their seemingly unlimited financial backing, Manchester City don’t sign players if they don’t think they’re ready to make an impact, and as such their interest should ring alarm bells in East London.

Still a long way off making any sort of breakthrough into the first-team, Parker’s talent alerting a plethora of top clubs suggests that the best move for the Hammers is to keep their young starlet at all costs.

Julen Lopetegui’s arrival at the club this summer has already resulted in some big changes, with a combined £60million spent on Luis Guilherme and Max Kilman so far [Sky Sports, 5 July].

Furthermore, the club have allowed fringe players such as Flynn Downes and Said Benrahma to depart, suggesting the Lopetegui era will be one in which nothing less than the best will do.

As such, retaining the Hammers’ best young talent should also come under this banner, as the club looks to build a successful future with a helping hand from their famed academy.

Keeping the likes of Parker are surely crucial to this mindset, and given they’ll only receive a small compensation fee if City do sign him, the Irons should do all they can to keep their talented forward.
