Manchester City plan £200m spending spree as Lucas Paqueta update emerges at West Ham United

Manchester City could be set to sign West Ham United star Lucas Paqueta as part of a £200million spending spree, according to GiveMeSport.

The outlet reported on its website on Monday (22 April) that Pep Guardiola is expected to oversee a major overhaul of his playing squad this summer, with insiders suggesting the refit could cost up to £200million.

Hammers midfielder Paqueta is expected to seal his switch to the Etihad Stadium after a move fell through last summer, while Bayern Munich gem Jamal Musiala remains a genuine target for the reigning Premier League champions.

Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes and Benfica’s Joao Neves are also of definite interest to City with as many as three big names expected to join Guardiola’s ranks before the start of the next Premier League campaign.

Will Lucas Paqueta leave West Ham United for Manchester City in the summer transfer window?

It has almost begun to feel inevitable that Paqueta will leave West Ham this summer. The Brazilian has been excellent across his two seasons and the London Stadium but there is expectation around supporters he won’t be in claret and blue next term.

While it would be a massive blow to the Irons and potentially a new manager, to lose the midfielder, West Ham will almost certainly earn a good fee for his services if City are prepared to spend nearly £200million in the window.

Tim Steidten and the rest of the team behind the scenes at the London Stadium drive a hard bargain, as was shown in Decland Rice’s deal to Arsenal last summer and they will only sell a player if the buying club matches their valuation.

While it would be a major disappointment to lose Paqueta, any money raised through his sale could be reinvested into strengthening the other areas of the squad. What may initially be a step backwards, could prove to help the Irons take two paces forward.
