Manchester City ace Kalvin Phillips ‘very keen’ on Newcastle move amid West Ham United interest
Kalvin Phillips would be very keen on a move to Newcastle, although a move to Tottenham or West Ham may be better suited to him according to Dean Jones.
The former Eurosport journalist suggested that Phillips could explore his options in the transfer window with several teams throwing their hat in the ring for his signature.
This has come after Pep Guardiola admitted he would not stand in the way of the midfielder if he wanted to leave Manchester City in January. [The Guardian, 20 October]

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT [14 December], Jones shared his view: “He’s got other options open to him. I think he’s very keen on the Newcastle idea.
“But if you have clubs like Tottenham potentially knocking on the door and West Ham, as well, then there are other places that perhaps will be better suited to him.”
West Ham should be in the queue
While the centre of midfield isn’t exactly a problem position at the London Stadium, with the likes of James Ward-Prowse, Thomas Soucek and Edson Alvarez so often occupying those roles, the Hammers cannot pass on the opportunity to sign a player of Phillips’ quality.
Regardless of his struggles since moving to Manchester, his continued presence as a regular in Gareth Southgate’s England team is a sign of his quality, and if he can show the levels he did at Leeds, Phillips would be an excellent addition to Moyes’ squad.

Both Tottenham and Newcastle may provide more appealing options to Phillips, given the relative sizes of the club, but the fact West Ham are competing in Europe while Tottenham didn’t qualify and Newcastle have been knocked out could provide an opportunity.
If it is a deal that can be done, they should push to the front of the line and ensure they are in a good position to bring the England international to East London in January.
In other West Ham news, Moyes shared an injury update on Edson Alvarez.
