Man United eye deal for West Ham loanee Nayef Aguerd as Sociedad stance shared

Nayef Aguerd has enjoyed a successful loan spell with La Liga outfit Real Sociedad, leaving West Ham with a decision to make in the summer.

Aguerd was deemed surplus to requirements at the London Stadium last summer before a last-minute deal saw him seal a switch to Real Sociedad, where he has since thrived.

The Morrocan international has made 31 appearances for Sociedad throughout all competitions, and has been a regular starter in league fixtures, having started 19 of their 26 encounters.

However, that form hasn’t gone without attention, with Manchester United eyeing a summer swoop for the defender, leaving West Ham with a decision to make.

Sociedad stance on Aguerd transfer shared amid Man United interest

Sociedad have previously expressed their interest in retaining the services of Aguerd on a permanent basis, with a report from Fichajes (5 March) now claiming that they are “confident” in their ability to do just that.

However, they will face stern competition in the race to win his signature with the report also stating that Man United are interested in a deal, with Aguerd likely to “fit perfectly” into Ruben Amorim’s style of play.

Sociedad are unlikely to be able to compete financially with the Red Devils, and if that interest develops further, there is a high likelihood that the Spanish outfit will have to drop out of the race.

Of course, the Irons will also have a say in the Moroccan’s future, and there is every possibility that Graham Potter will want to keep Aguerd given the way he would fit seamlessly into the current formation adopted at the London Stadium.

Aguerd would be a perfect fit for West Ham

In the last couple of games, Potter has opted to deploy a five at the back formation, which allows the two wider centre backs to showcase their ball playing ability.

Which, for Aguerd, is arguably his biggest strength. Though the very fact that the style of play utilises three centre backs, means that the inclusion of another one in the squad will be a necessity in the summer.

Given that Aguerd is a West Ham player, it makes sense to keep him, as opposed to offloading him and still needing to bring another one in.
