West Ham have been linked with a range of Championship players during the summer transfer window.

Sunderland duo Eliezer Mayenda have been mooted, while Hayden Hackney is also under consideration.

However, in terms of confirmed signings, the Hammers are yet to do any business with English clubs.

West Ham pave way for Hermansen signing

There have been reports that Hermansen could cost West Ham £35million as the Irons look to strengthen in between the sticks.

The Dane was a part of Leicester's team that suffered relegation last season, although he played behind a shaky defence.

Hermansen made 27 Premier League appearances for the Foxes, but could do nothing to halt their dire form.

West Ham just appointed Casper Ankergren as their lead goalkeeper coach ahead of the new campaign.

Interestingly, The Telegraph's Mat Law (17 July) was told some time ago that Hermansen is on the East London outfit's list of new goalkeepers this summer.

The journalist notes that Ankergren previously worked with the 25-year-old while the pair were at Brøndby IF.

The Hammers require goalkeepers this summer after Lukasz Fabianski departed the London club.

As it stands, Graham Potter has Alphonse Areola and Wes Foderingham as well as Krisztián Hegyi, who has been promoted to the first team.

Hammers taking risk by signing relegated goalkeeper?

It is easy to say that a player would be a failure based on their relegation record, just take one look at Aaron Ramsdale.

However, it is not as simple as that, and several other factors must be considered before passing judgment.

Of course, Hermansen conceded lots of goals last season, but in terms of his goals prevented statistic, he could not have done much about that.

Furthermore, the 25-year-old made one error that led to a goal in comparison to the three that Areola made last term.

However, the fee being touted for the Dane does feel steep, and should be negotiated.
