Mads Hermansen may have to leave West Ham United in the summer transfer window to continue his international career.

It was looking as though it was set to be another transfer howler from the Hammers after Hermansen's start to the campaign, though he certainly picked up form towards the latter stages.

The Dane claimed the number one shirt back off Alphonse Areola, and while he was unable to do enough to prevent relegation, very little more could have been asked of him.

As unlikely as it may seem currently, the hope will be for West Ham that he will be their number one in the Championship next season.

However, that decision is likely to be up to Hermansen, who has a big decision to make in regard to his future.

Could Mads Hermansen leave West Ham?

Quite frankly, there isn't a single player at the London Stadium that you could say with absolute certainty will be here next season, and Hermansen is one of them.

His performances towards the end of the campaign may have well have sparked interest, and if the deal is right, the Irons may move him on given their need to raise funds.

However, his future may also hinge on whether he wants to be Denmark's number one, knowing that playing in the Championship would hamper his chances of doing so.

Filip Jorgensen is their current number one, though his future is also undecided heading into the summer window, sparking even more uncertainty.

West Ham may hold Hermansen cards

If Hermansen were to opt for a move, he would need the blessing from West Ham to do so.

And given his contract situation, they will be well-placed to demand a good fee if they were to sanction an exit.

The Dane has four years left on his deal come the end of June, meaning that the Hammers are under no immediate pressure to sell.

With that said, they are in need of generating around £100million from player sales this summer, so that decision may hinge on who else departs in the coming months.
