Luis Guilherme medical timeframe emerges ahead of formal West Ham United transfer announcement
Luis Guilherme is set to have his West Ham medical within days ahead of sealing his transfer from Palmeiras, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via Twitter on 8 June that the teenage forward is closing in on a £25million move to the London Stadium after in-person work by technical director Tim Steidten, with an official announcement of the deal due to come as soon as the window opens (14 June).
Guilherme’s deal has swung between positive talks, hijack attempts from rivals, and the move potentially collapsing altogether, but it was reported by Nosso Palestra earlier on 8 June that the 18-year-old was set to travel to England the same day.
Sheth wrote: “Brazilian forward Luis Guilherme expected to have West Ham United medical early next week ahead of completing £25m move from Palmeiras.
“Technical Director Tim Steidten was in Brazil last week finalising deal. Formal announcement to come when window officially opens.”
Tim Steidten set to push through first West Ham deal for Julen Lopetegui
It certainly doesn’t appear to have been straight forward, and recent developments have shown that it still can’t be considered safe, but it looks like the Irons are going to get their man.
Steidten has surely had an exhausting start to the summer as he looked to get multiple deals done ready for Julen Lopetegui’s official start date on 1 July when it has required so much effort to complete one.
The move for Patricio Bruno also ran into problems when it looked like the defender was going to sign from Flamengo, and there is strong competition from Bayer Leverkusen in the race for Girona’s Aleix Garcia.
An exciting young attacking talent such as Guilherme is exactly the sort of deal that will help get fans engaged for the new era, as Lopetegui takes over from a David Moyes reign that had become increasingly divisive among the supporters.
Assuming Guilherme’s medical is completed successfully within the imminent timeframe and he is then confirmed in a week’s time then he should have the best chance as possible of getting comfortable at the London Stadium under his new manager in the circumstances by signing so early.
But with a summer of international tournaments disrupting the changing of the guard in the dugout at the club it is still no given that a young player will immediately hit the ground running, and the dramatic circumstances around his transfer will likely increase the pressure on him to perform.
