Luis Guilherme arrives in London for West Ham United medical ahead of transfer completion
Luis Guilherme’s flight has now landed in London for the Brazilian to complete his West Ham medical, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist reported via Twitter on 10 June that the Palmeiras attacker is now in the UK ahead of sealing his Irons switch.
The teenager has flown in ahead of completing a deal which will make him the first signing of the new Julen Lopetegui era at the London Stadium.
His transfer has been through a number of swings already but Tim Steidten spent time in Brazil personally working to push the move towards completion.
West Ham are expected to pay around £25million up front for the 18-year-old [Dharmesh Sheth, 8 June].
Tim Steidten now on the brink of West Ham transfer success
It’s not impossible but a transfer collapse at this stage would be extremely dramatic so there must now be some confidence that the Hammers are about to get their man.
That confidence will perhaps remain tentative given his deal swung from close to completion [Romano, 31 May], to nearly falling through [HITC, 3 June], before surviving a late hijack attempt [West Ham Football, 5 June] to get to this stage.
And when another move that looked close to being secured from Brazil, albeit not this close, did fail amid the pursuit of Flamengo defender Patricio Bruno.
It has likely taken a lot more effort than Steidten might have envisaged to get to this point with Guilherme, and may have forced the German to take his attention away from other deals.
But if it is sealed within the next few days it is expected to be officially announced on 14 June as the transfer window opens.
That is still a fortnight before Lopetegui is set to officially take over from David Moyes, so there remains plenty of time for the squad to be worked on through the summer, but the ambition to get as many as three signings in this month may be optimistic.
