Lopetegui ready to sell Ward-Prowse with shock West Ham exit now on the cards
West Ham United could cash in on James Ward-Prowse before the transfer window closes on Friday, according to The Athletic.
The news outlet reported on Monday (26 August) that Julen Lopetegui’s decision to leave the 29-year-old out of his first two starting line-ups of the season suggests he could be ready to accept reasonable bids for him.
The Athletic’s Elias Burke claims “Ward-Prowse might consider himself unlucky to be on the transfer block” after joining the Irons last year from Southampton and being a key member of David Moyes’ squad before he left.
Ward-Prowse could leave London Stadium in unexpected twist
Going into the summer transfer window, not many West Ham fans would have expected to see the news that Ward-Prowse could be leaving.
Last season, the former Southampton midfielder made an incredible 51 appearances across all competitions, scoring seven goals and supplying 11 assists in the process.
Moyes trusted Ward-Prowse unlike many of his teammates but ultimately, the England international’s form waned over the course of the campaign.

Lopetegui has since left him out of his first two starting line-ups of the season, opting for new signing Guido Rodriguez ahead of him in the central midfield area, along with the ever-present Tomas Soucek.
Ward-Prowse didn’t even get off the bench in the 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at the weekend, further suggesting that he’s not in Lopetegui’s plans.
Will he leave before 11pm on 30 August? It’s likely but it might be hard for West Ham to find a buyer because of his high worth and presumably high wages.
In other West Ham news, this “humiliated” player’s agents have been in discussions about a move to the London Stadium.
