Lopetegui makes significant U-Turn over January signing at West Ham United

Julen Lopetegui has made a “significant U-Turn” and is now considering getting a new striker at West Ham United on a permanent deal in the January transfer window, according to GiveMeSport.

The outlet reported on Friday (27 December) that the Spaniard could be convinced to sign a new striker on a permanent deal rather than a loan if an exit for Niclas Fullkrug can be sanctioned.

Although he arrived at the London Stadium as a promising player, the German has failed to adapt to life under Lopetegui and a move away from East London looks to be on the cards.

Niclas Fullkrug exit could dictate West Ham business in January

Although disappointing, it hasn’t happened for Fullkrug at West Ham and it is clear that the player and the manager will probably not provide the environment for a thriving relationship between the two of them.

With this in mind, it would make sense to offload a player who wants to leave as this would free up money not just through a transfer fee, but also by getting his wages off the books which would give the manager more space in the January transfer window.

With Michail Antonio injured, the Spaniard will know how much he needs to bring in attacking reinforcement into his side and a permanent signing would surely be a better option for the manager, who needs to try and make his mark on this side.

Therefore, the Hammers need to prioritise offloading Fullkrug next month in the hope that this will boost his side’s season from the knock-on effects.

In other West Ham news, Lopetegui’s side are considering a move for a Championship midfielder amid a contract development.
