Liverpool want to sign Nayef Aguerd from West Ham United in summer 2023 to bolster defensive options

Liverpool are keeping an eye on West Ham defender Nayef Aguerd as they consider bolstering their central defensive options in the summer transfer window.

The Hammers spent in excess of £30m to sign the Morocco international from Ligue 1 club Rennes in the summer, and he has become one of the first names on the team sheet with his performances this season.

Liverpool are now looking at strengthening their own defensive options in the summer, and according to a report by Goal (1 March) the 26-year-old’s performances have “not gone unnoticed”.

Liverpool are expected to go on a splurge in the summer, having been linked with the signings of Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice among others, after their billionaire owners u-turned on selling the club.

No chance

This is a deal that simply cannot be allowed to happen this summer or at any point in the near future if West Ham are serious about being a top side.

After the successes of last season we spent big last summer, and Aguerd was one of the marquee signings alongside Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca.

But unlike those two he has actually lived up to his hype and has been one of the better performers in the Premier League for the Hammers this season.

On top of that, his performances at the World Cup with Morocco showed just how good he can be at the highest level and if we want this season to just be a blip then we need people like him in the side.

His ability on the ball, his one on one defending, his pace and his aerial ability are among the very best in the squad and it would be a nightmare to lose him so soon after his arrival.

At to that the fact that Declan Rice seems almost certain to be leaving in the summer too, we can’t afford for that much quality to leave us and go elsewhere in such a short space of time.
