Liverpool continue to monitor West Ham United star Jarrod Bowen

Liverpool will continue to monitor West Ham star Jarrod Bowen, who would consider a move after seeing Declan Rice thrive at Arsenal, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Jones shared his view that Bowen should sign a new contract at the London Stadium, although he suggested Rice’s immediate success both on and off the pitch after joining Arsenal may tempt Bowen to follow suit.

He claimed that Liverpool will continue to monitor the winger, having admired him for a while and being forced to consider plans for life without Mohammed Salah.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT on 24 September, Jones claimed: “I think it makes sense that Bowen signs a new contract at West Ham. I don’t think it would come as a surprise to Liverpool if he does that.

“There’s going to come a time when Bowen will have options to leave West Ham and I think you’ll consider it as well.

“It’s not that he will want to leave, but he’ll see for example, what’s happened to Declan Rice and the rise in profile that he’s just had since leaving West Ham.

“You can just see the aura around Rice since leaving that he felt ready for something a bit bigger. And while West Ham is a big club, it’s not as big as an Arsenal or a Liverpool or a Man United. And at some point, Bowen is going to have that opportunity.

“I think that Liverpool will continue monitoring Bowen, as they’ve admired him for quite a while and knowing that the Salah exit probably isn’t too far away, now they should still be looking at it.”

The Liverpool move would be tempting

West Ham are reportedly trying to tie Bowen down to a new long-term contract as a matter of urgency [The Athletic, 25 September], as they are probably aware of the interest from Liverpool and are keen to shut that possibility down before it even emerges.

It is hard to dispute, though, that if any player was offered the chance to join one of the world’s biggest clubs and compete for silverware on a regular basis, it would be a very difficult proposition to turn down.

For Bowen, the Rice comparison may be the best look into what his potential career could look like, but it’s about weighing up whether staying and being a legend at West Ham would be the better option than furthering his own career and ambitions at the expense of being just another player.

The English winger has already written himself into Hammers folklore after scoring the Europa Conference League-winning goal in Prague, and if he agrees to extend his deal at West Ham, that legend could still grow yet.
