Lille want to sign West Ham star Nayef Aguerd after Manchester United sign Leny Yoro

Lille want to spend some of the £52m they received for Leny Yoro on West Ham star Nayef Aguerd, according to L’Equipe.

Writing on their website (20 July), the news outlet report that the Ligue 1 club are looking to bolster their squad this summer and Morocco defender Aguerd is a target to strengthen the defence.

Lille just sold 18-year-old star defender Yoro to Manchester United in a club-record deal [BBC], and with Aguerd’s future at the London Stadium uncertain he is one name on their shortlist of replacements.

West Ham to sell Nayef Aguerd?

There has been a lot of speculation this summer about the future of the Morocco international, just two years after he joined West Ham in a £30m deal from Rennes.

After a strong start to life in east London he has struggled for form since the World Cup in Qatar and an exit now seems to be the scenario that makes the most sense for everyone [Hakim Zhouri, 11 May].

Max Kilman is likely to be the first-choice central defender with Lopetegui keen to make him captain [GiveMeSport] after joining from Wolves this season, but his partner could be one of Kurt Zouma or Dinos Mavropanos if Aguerd is to move on.

That means an exit could definitely happen, and Lille certainly have the cash to be able to get a deal done now after selling Yoro.

There’s still plenty of time to go in the window and an exit for Aguerd seems more likely than not, and it could open the door for another defender to come into the club too with Jean-Clair Todibo a top target.

In other West Ham news, the club have opened talks for a new defender who has green-lighted a move.
