Leon Goretzka proves he’s exactly what West Ham United need amid ‘bombshell’ Bayern Munich transfer news
Leon Goretzka has proven off the field why he’s exactly what West Ham need after transfer news has emerged from Bayern Munich.
Spanish news outlet Fichajes reported on Wednesday (15 November) that the Hammers are willing to offer £43.7million to sign the Germany international, leading to a potential “bombshell” transfer in the Bundesliga next summer.
The 28-year-old midfielder also hit the headlines on Thursday (16 November) when he called FIFA out for awarding the 2034 World Cup to Saudi Arabia, showing that he is a strong character who stands up for his beliefs [The Athletic].

When asked for his thoughts on the Middle Eastern country hosting the tournament, Goretzka said: “The mistake was in the awarding (of the 2022 World Cup to Qatar) and the criteria that played a role. That obviously has not been corrected for the next one and that is certainly not good.”
It isn’t the first time he has spoken out on issues after accusing former Qatar international Khalid Salman of being “very oppressive” when he claimed that homosexuality was “damage in the mind” last year.
The German clearly isn’t afraid to voice his opinion on matters he doesn’t agree with as he prepares to help his country take on Turkey and Austria during the international break.
That spirit, alongside being an excellent player, is something West Ham could really do with in their side as they aim to persuade Goretzka to make the move to the London Stadium.
Although the Hammers brought in Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse over the summer, they could perhaps do with another option in central midfield to provide more balance.

The Bayern man would be the perfect addition to bridge that gap, as he is a rounded midfielder, who is more than capable of doing a job at both ends of the field.
He has a huge amount of experience and success behind him, having racked up 193 appearances for the Bundesliga giants, scoring 36 goals and laying on 37 assists in the process.
The midfielder is also no stranger to the international stage after featuring in a number of tournaments for Germany, having played for them on 55 occasions.
But there are believed to be a number of other Premier League clubs keen on signing him next summer, so the Hammers need to make their intentions clear.
The transfer fee would be worth paying as there is no doubt that he would add quality to our midfield options and he still has a number of years left in him at the top level.
In other West Ham news, a journalist has detailed how one Hammers forward has had a “significant” turnaround.
