Leon Goretzka exit U-turn emerges at Bayern Munich amid ‘dream’ West Ham United development
Leon Goretzka remains a “dream” target for West Ham as the midfielder looks set to move on from Bayern Munich, according to Florian Plettenberg.
The Sky Sports Germany journalist tweeted on 2 August that the Germany international is also attracting interest from Manchester United.
He said the 28-year-old has been shown by Bayern boss Thomas Tuchel recently that he won’t be a starter and that has created a “difficult situation”, with the Hammers still holding an interest in signing him.
Ambitious
This would be an extremely ambitious deal for West Ham to try and pull off after failing to land a number of midfield targets already this summer.
Goretzka is a class above a lot of the players the club have been linked with after making 179 appearances for Bayern since signing for them from Schalke in 2018 [Transfermarkt].
The midfielder also has 53 caps for Germany under his belt and Man United’s interest would make it tough to complete a deal, given that they have Champions League football to offer him.

But he would be a perfect replacement for Declan Rice due to his size – standing at 6’2″ – and his ability to get up and down the pitch, while also being very comfortable on the ball.
This really would be a statement signing and one that would quieten down a lot of the critics, but it seems incredibly unlikely the club would be able to pull it off after their previous failings in this transfer window.
In other West Ham news, the Hammers could be set to move for a PL winger after one target chose to join a European club.
