Leeds United expected to make new move to sign West Ham right-back Harrison Ashby

Leeds United are expected to make another move for West Ham right-back Harrison Ashby after failing to land him in the summer, according to Alan Nixon.

Writing via his Patreon account on Sunday (4 September), the Sun journalist reported that Newcastle’s interest in the 20-year-old Hammer is waning.

It is understood that Leeds are still keen though but West Ham are planning to fend off the interest by offering the Scotland Under-21 international a new contract.

Nixon claims West Ham were ready to let Ashby leave before Ben Johnson’s injury.

Keep him

There’s a reason why Ashby is wanted by Newcastle and Leeds.

He’s clearly a highly-rated right-back by those outside of West Ham and it would be silly to let him leave when he’s clearly showing promise.

Ashby’s contract situation needs to be resolved otherwise he could end up leaving for next to nothing in the future and the fact he’s made six senior appearances for the Irons suggests that David Moyes does see a future for him with us.

Johnson’s injury has come at a good time for Ashby and it’s an opportunity for him to step up.

But he needs to show he’s committed to West Ham before Moyes can show commitment towards him playing in the senior side.

Ashby may want to move up north though.

He’s a Scottish youngster with caps for the Under-21s and going up to Newcastle or Leeds will mean he’s closer to home.

At Leeds, though, there’s no clear route for him to get first-team game-time as Jesse Marsch already has Luke Ayling, Rasmus Kristensen, Cody Drameh and Stuart Dallas able to play at right-back.
