Kyle Walker-Peters update emerges as West Ham United want new transfer

West Ham and Southampton are still some distance apart in valuations for the transfer of Kyle Walker-Peters, according to Dharmesh Sheth.

Speaking to GiveMeSport, the Sky Sports journalist has reported that the Irons will prioritise signing a new right-back in this transfer window.

Walker-Peters and Manchester United star Aaron Wan-Bissaka are both on the radar, with the Saints wary of the contract situation of their man.

“Right-back is a priority position, that is clear – it looks like they will try and recruit in that area.

“Aaron Wan-Bissaka is one of a number of players they’re looking at, but Kyle Walker-Peters as well.

“Initial talks between West Ham and Southampton have highlighted a gap in valuation, but Southampton will be very wary that Walker-Peters is entering the final year of his contract.”

Kyle Walker-Peters is key transfer target for West Ham United

Julen Lopetegui’s first Premier League game in charge could see the Hammers field an entirely new defensive line, with right-back arguably the most pressing position in this area.

While Coufal has impressed for both club and country in recent months, the Czech international is on the wrong side of 30, and bringing in a proven stand-in like Walker-Peters on a cut-price fee would be ideal [iSport, 8 June].

Central defence is already receiving plenty of attention, with a transfer for Wolves captain Max Kilman confirmed and Jean-Clair Todibo being approached with a bid close to £30million [Jonathan Johnson, 4 July].

Lopetegui had identified six positions to address even before arriving through the doors in East London, and with the pursuit of both Walker-Peters and Wan-Bissaka, it’s clear that right-back was one of those [The Sun, 23 May].

Walker-Peters may have spent a season playing in England’s second tier, but having excelled in the Championship for a promotion-winning side, the 27-year-old could well be ready to take the next step.
