Kyle Walker-Peters transfer update at West Ham United as Southampton deal agreed
West Ham United remain in talks to sign Kyle Walker-Peters from Southampton after a deal was agreed for Flynn Downes, according to Sky Sports.
Dharmesh Sheth has reported (15 July, 16:12) that talks over a deal are “ongoing” with the Hammers keen to sign a new right-back.
A potential swap deal that would see West Ham pay £10m and send Downes to St Mary’s for Walker-Peters was on the cards [talkSPORT, 10 July], but the Saints have since agreed a separate deal worth £18m for the midfielder [Dharmesh Sheth, 15 July].
West Ham United ready new right-back transfer
The Hammers squad needs to be rebuilt this summer with lots of players in key positions getting older or not being in the manager’s plans.
Defence especially is an area being targeted with Max Kilman already being brought in from Wolves amid question marks around the future of Kurt Zouma and Nayef Aguerd.
But after Ben Johnson signed a deal with Ipswich [The Times, 26 June], plus the doubts about Vladimir Coufal’s future at the London Stadium [Athletic, 27 April], full-back is another area of the squad that needs to be looked at.

Walker-Peters would be the ideal signing considering his experience in the Premier League and his ability to play on both sides, but Southampton will want to keep him for their return to the division so a deal won’t be easy to do.
There’s still plenty of time to go and relations between the clubs are good, so a deal is still very much on the cards, but Downes is now out of the equation.
In other West Ham news, the club have given a player permission to train with a new club ahead of a summer exit.
