Kurt Zouma finalising terms to quit West Ham United after medical passed – Dharmesh Sheth
Kurt Zouma is finalising a deal to leave West Ham United and join Al-Orouba after passing a medical, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Sky Sports journalist reported via X [29 August] that the deal is close to completion, in what will be an initial loan before a free transfer once Zouma’s contract expires next summer.
It is understood the Hammers will contribute a “small portion” of the defender’s wages across this season, before he becomes a free agent.
Sheth shared: “Kurt Zouma close to finalising move from West Ham to Saudi Pro-League club Al-Orouba.
“Zouma has completed his medical [and] now finalising terms. Move is initial loan with West Ham contributing small portion of wages.
“At the end of loan, he will be a free agent.”
West Ham United bid farewell to Kurt Zouma
Zouma enjoyed some of his time at West Ham United, being handed the captain’s armband by David Moyes whilst at the London Stadium.
But now is the time when both club and player are moving in a new direction, with the Irons having heavily invested in improving their backline with the signings of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Clair Todibo (initial loan) and Max Kilman.
Of the three seasons Zouma spent in East London, last term saw him accumulate 33 Premier League appearances, the most since he arrived, but he was not in Julen Lopetegui or the club’s long-term plans.
A departure this summer was always the intention for the 29-year-old, although this looked in doubt after failing a medical earlier this month with Dubai-based club Shabab Al-Ahly.
He may not be the last Irons defender to depart for Saudi either – with Nayef Aguerd wanted by Al-Ittihad [Santi Aouna, 29 August] in a developing story.
