Kurt Zouma exit update emerges as West Ham United eye summer Trevoh Chalobah transfer
West Ham United are ready to try and sign Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah if they can sell one of Nayef Aguerd or Kurt Zouma, according to Alex Crook.
The talkSPORT journalist reported on Tuesday (23 July) that the Hammers alongside Premier League rivals Crystal Palace are interested in signing the versatile defender following new developments at Chelsea.
Chalobah has been left out of the Blues’ squad for their pre-season tour of America with the suggestion from within Stamford Bridge being that they are looking to part ways with Chalobah this summer.
Julen Lopetegui’s side are ready to push for the 25-year-old’s signature, but not until they manage to find a buyer for one of, if not both Aguerd and Zouma having already signed Wolves captain Max Kilman.

Lopetegui has made no secret of his desire to revamp the West Ham defence ahead of the new Premier League season. While Kilman was the start of that shift, more work is required before the campaign gets underway.
Both Aguerd and Zouma were part of one of the division’s worst backlines last term. There has been an expectation that at least one of them would be sold this summer, but so far neither has come close to a move away.
Chalobah would certainly be an upgrade on either defender. At his age, he still has plenty of room to improve and he doesn’t suffer with the same fitness issues that have plagued Zouma throughout his time in East London.
If the terms of the deal are right for Tim Steidten and Lopetegui, this is definitely a deal that the Irons should be pursuing ahead of the new season, but they need to make some space in the squad first.
West Ham cannot afford to waste too much time getting rid of both Zouma or Aguerd as they could risk missing out on Chalobah or any of their other defensive targets in the coming weeks.
