West Ham United have to be on high alert, with Kieran Trippier's Wolves move already in doubt.

The veteran fullback agreed a three-year deal earlier this week, seeing him join the Old Gold ahead of their Championship return.

The subsequent sacking of Rob Edwards has completely changed the context of Wolves' preparation for the second tier.

Relegated alongside the Hammers, the Black Country club have been preparing for the coming season for half a year, with their demise all but a certainty after the opening months.

In contrast, Nuno Espirito Santo's Irons were relegated on the final day, sending the East London club into a frenzy as they look ahead to the Championship.

And as they begin laying the groundwork, West Ham must keep themselves aware of the ongoing chaos at Molineux.

Fresh reports outline Kieran Trippier distrust - West Ham must be ready to pounce

With his Newcastle deal expiring at the end of the month, former England international Trippier was left in search of what will likely be his final move within English football.

On Monday, Wolves would announce the signing of the 35-year-old, who expressed his delight at helping the club return to the Premier League.

At the same time, it was mentioned how manager Edwards had played an integral role in the signing, before Raul Jimenez's return was also announced a day later.

To make it three bombshell announcements in a row, the Midlanders would reveal the sacking of Edwards a day later - an issue that has left Trippier pondering his initial decision, as per reports from Sky Sports.

Said to be feeling "betrayed" by the decision, the experienced full-back can still yet cancel the agreement, that is not set to begin until the start of July.

This is where the Hammers must stay alert.

While Kyle Walker-Peters is a fantastic second-tier option, having both him and Trippier as your options for a 46-game season would be simply sensational.

With excellent set piece quality, and the leadership skills to help West Ham reset, they simply have to be aware as to just what goes on at Molineux in the coming weeks.

West Ham will be desperate to follow Wolves route after surprise Andre contract news

West Ham handed opportunity to claw back ground on early Championship favourites

Having had the time to get their ducks in order, Wolves took the tag of early Championship favourites in recent weeks.

Alongside the signings of Trippier and Jimenez, the Old Gold were able to convince midfield star Andre to stay, alongside young starlet Mateus Mane.

All of this is now back up in the air, with Wolves' owner Guo Guanchang reportedly overwriting the work of executive chairman Nathan Shi and technical director Matt Jackson, deciding to sack Edwards despite the work done since the end of the season.

As a result, the club is back in a state of chaos, with the fans questioning the role of Jorge Mendes in securing incoming manager Cesar Peixoto.

Even after the time advantage, the Old Gold could land back at square one - allowing West Ham to potentially take the ascendancy as nailed on promotion favourites next season.

Of course, there is still work to do for the Hammers, but the fanbase may be slightly more at ease after watching one of the direct rivals get pegged back.
