Kaveh Solhekol shares what West Ham told him about Jesse Lingard on Tuesday

Kaveh Solhekol has revealed he spoke with West Ham about the possibility of Manchester United’s Jesse Lingard making a return to East London this month.

Lingard, 29, was incredible while on loan at the London Stadium for the second half of last season but a return has so far failed to happen and Tottenham have now been linked with signing the England forward [football.london].

In reaction to the report that emerged on 11 January that Spurs have been in contact over a deal, Sky Sports host Mike Wedderburn asked whether West Ham are in the picture to sign Lingard.

West Ham

“I asked the question about West Ham again today, whether that was a possibility, and we’ve been asking the question at least two or three times every week,” said Solhekol on Sky Sports News’ Transfer Show on Tuesday evening [05:26pm].

“As things stand, I was told that’s not happening, there’s nothing happening as far as Lingard and West Ham are concerned.

“Of course, that could change as we get closer to the end of the window.

“But at the moment, the information we have is nothing is going on there.”

Forget about it

Although Solhekol has teased the fact that the situation could change surrounding Lingard before the January window closes, we just don’t see it happening.

If we’re honest, the entire situation regarding Lingard is boring now and we really couldn’t care less if he returns to West Ham or not.

He was sensational here last term, scoring nine goals and supplying five assists in 16 appearances and also playing his way back into the England squad.

However, he didn’t want to return to us in the summer and was sold on a lie at Manchester United that he’d have a first-team role there.

He was naive to believe that when he’d been overlooked so often by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer before his stunning form at West Ham. And then they signed Cristiano Ronaldo to add even more competition for the ex-Irons loan star.

Lingard should have joined us in the summer and to be honest, do we look like we need him right now?

We need to add to the defence and, of course, sign a striker.

In other West Ham news, Dean Ashton blasted this player in the win over Leeds and suggested he was cheating.
